Material Costs in the Fiber Department

Material costs are created to replace costs for the variety of consumable materials that each class uses for their workshops.

Material cost supplies are requested by your instructor for their course materials and are prepared by the Studio Managers for the upcoming semester.  The course materials are often placed in class boxes or kits and distributed during class workshops. These "Class Material Costs"  are payable at the 足球游戏_中国足彩网¥体育资讯 Store. We hope that all payments are made by Friday, October 3rd by 5pm.

Paying for the Class Material Cost

  1. If students can pay for their material cost directly to the 足球游戏_中国足彩网¥体育资讯 Store, they should pay by Friday, October 3rd by 5pm
  2. Any student enrolled in a Fiber Dept course facing financial hardship can email their Financial Aid Counselor to request funds for Material Costs. Students should email, Subject heading: Fiber Material Costs by Friday, October 3rd by 5pmThis link describes each student’s Financial Aid Counselor.

    3. The Fiber Department has a Friends of Fiber fund that alumni, friends of the department, and department faculty have donated to this fund to support our students. This is an unequivocal commitment from the department to help subsidize the cost of materials it takes to learn techniques related to our major, and we want to be clear and transparent regarding our current capacity.? Currently, we are unable to do a blanket waiver of all material fees, but we utilize this special fund to help subsidize fees for this Fall 2025 semester so that no material fee exceeds $55 for a class.

New for AY26: students who are experiencing financial hardship may apply for full coverage “Angel Funding” by submitting a brief proposal request to demonstrate need of funding. Funds are limited for this total coverage and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis until the funds are depleted.

    Process:

-Please email cday01@mica.edu with your request by?Monday, September 22nd

-Please place in the heading of your email Funds for Material Fee coverage.?We will not be able to make exceptions to the?Monday September 22nd, 2025?deadline. Once requests are received by?September 22nd, we will use available funds to reduce your material fee (*note: the reduction of costs will depend on how many requests come in. If you are able to pay this fee in full, it will benefit others who could use this assistance). We will email you your reduced balance and instructions for paying at the bookstore.

If you or someone you know would like to donate to this special and supportive fund you can visit this link:?/give-to-mica/ Click Make A Gift and Choose Other to specify Friends of Fiber.

Example: Students who are taking a course where the TC2 loom is being taught and the loom is planned in the curriculum will not need to pay for the cost of the warp. However, students who are returning to use the loom and are not currently in a class who is using the TC2 loom will be able to weave 36 inches on department cost. Once they weave over 36 inches, the department requests students pay for the warp materials.      -Warp thread cost for the TC2 loom  .24 cents an inch
